KELLY DANIEL
Pflugerville ISD Board of Trustees, Place 5
Kelly Daniel is seeking re-election to the PfISD School Board after completing two years on the Board. During her first two years on the Board of Trustees she served on the following committees: Executive Committee (Vice-President of the Board); Superintendent Evaluation (Chair); Policy Committee (Chair); Safety & Security; and Finance.
Her first year on the board, she met with members of the mental health community as well as members of the faith community prior to the vote required by Senate Bill 763. She collaborated with District staff, authoring the resolution approved unanimously by the Board, allowing chaplains to continue to volunteer in the district in other capacities, but not be employed as counselors solely based on their status as chaplains. She also dedicated countless hours through the painstaking process of choosing the current superintendent.
She believes in the following:
Driving accountability and transparency. This was a key value she kept at the forefront of her mission to select the current superintendent and through her committee work, creating the current Superintendent Review Instrument.
Schools should be appropriately funded, teachers and staff should earn a living wage, and retirees should receive a cost of living adjustment as appropriate. She does not support vouchers.
Children deserve to feel safe at school and should be protected against physical threats as well as emotional ones. She does not believe in arming teachers, but rather implementing appropriately funded campus security initiatives to remain in compliance with House Bill 3. Children have a constitutional right to a public education, regardless of their immigration status.
She does not support censorship. The District currently has a robust process in place for evaluating library materials as outlined in the District's policies, which includes parental input.
All children deserve an equitable and inclusive education.
In a time where our children's educational future is being jeopardized by both our Federal and State government, the local school board is the last line of defense in ensuring we uphold the integrity of our school system.
